Launched in early April, a new non-profit organization wants to promote local redistribution of the zakat, the tax that Muslims must pay. It’s a matter of translating what’s in the Koran and adapting it to our times,” explains Saâd Dhif, president of the foundation’s board and instigator of the project. Zakat must be invested in a way that is in line with the society in which we live, while at the same time meeting local needs.” The Swiss Zakat Foundation therefore wants the fruits of this traditional tax to remain in Switzerland.
